focus sludge incineration
Sludge incineration
As a wholly owned subsidiary of PD energy GmbH, KSR Klärschlammrecycling Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH is constructing a sludge mono-incineration plant in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen chemical park. Danpower GmbH holds a 50 % stake in PD energy GmbH. The remaining shares are held by Chemiepark Bitterfeld-Wolfen GmbH, a majority subsidiary of Gelsenwasser Group.
The investment volume of the construction project is approximately 80 million Euro.
The construction project
The foundation stone for one of Germany’s largest sludge incineration plants was laid on October 2, 2019. By constructing the plant, we are sending a clear signal for more resource conservation and sustainability, further expanding our portfolio in the field of environmentally friendly energy generation. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2021, with the start of production slated for 2022.
The plant is designed for a rated thermal input of 19.9 MWth. With an availability of more than 8,000 annual hours, the incineration plant will utilize up to 260,000 tons of dehydrated sludge from communal sewerage systems every year.
The thermal utilization of sludge in mono-incineration plants will represent a key method of disposal in the future. With the construction of the plant, we are contributing towards phosphorous recovery which will be required by law from 2029. The finite resource is filtered out via a range of systems and reintroduced to the material cycle.
